Girl Power!

Hoo-rag was proud to sponsor one of the longest running triathlons in the world. The Santa Barbara Triathlon was held August 22-24 and featured sprint courses, a long course and an ocean view! This year’s triathlon benefitted Girls, Inc.

Natural Helpers

From sexuality, violence, and drug abuse to family problems, academics and smoking – the stress on today’s youth can be overwhelming. And you remember as a child and young adult – you didn’t want to talk to your parents or teachers about your problems. Instead, you turned to your friends.
One New Mexico organization is giving children and teens the tools and confidence to help their peers through tough times. Natural Helpers provides training in skills such as listening, problem-solving and referring friends to the appropriate adult resources to a select group of students and mentors in local schools. The 25-hour course teaches the volunteers to effectively help their friends and classmates deal with problems like depression, drug abuse and violence.
‘Our main focus is training youth to watch out for each other because youth know first when a friend has a problem,’ said the program’s director, JoAnn Sartorius.
JoAnn reached out to the Hoo team to donate some better bandanas to give out to the youth volunteers and we were more than happy to help! We think this program is amazing and a great asset for every school. It’s all about people helping people! Teaching youngsters effective ways to help themselves and their peers will only make it easier for them to grow into healthy and happy Hooligans.

The Hoo: The Perfect Fitness Accessory

We were proud to sponsor the 8th Annual Fisher-Titus Maple City Triathlon/Duathlon on August 2, 2014 in Norwalk, Ohio. The event was designed to encourage people to develop and maintain personal fitness goals. The triathlon consisted of a 800 yd. swim, 16 mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run. The duathlon entrants ran 2 miles, followed by a 16 mile bike ride and finished up with a 3.1 mile race. This non-competitive environment was a great event for first time participants.
We congratulate those who completed this race and all you Hooligans out there who are working on your fitness – whether it be walking, running, swimming, biking – whatever your doing to get out and be active! And don’t forget the Hoo is the perfect fitness accessory and the moisture-wicking material will keep you sweat-free and shielded from the sun and wind. Keep up the good work Hooligans!

Totally Tandem: A Bicycle Built for Hoo

Totally Tandem Bike Team

Meet two of our favorite Hooligans, Brendon and Emma – or ‘Bremma’ as their friends call them. Bremma hail from Melbourne, Australia but rarely stay in one place. For years they traveled the world, learning and loving the experience.
From their love of travel and adventure, Bremma came up with a plan : Totally Tandem. They would go from Vancouver, Canada to Santiago, Chile … on a bicycle built for two. The ride of over 20,000 km would take over a year to complete. Their philosophy ‘Starting small, but thinking big’ turned into a solid plan and in July of 2013 they were off. Fast forward 14 months and over 14,500 km later and today we find them cycling off from Riobamba, Ecuador towards the finish line!
Throughout their ride – they rock the rag, protecting them from sun, wind and dust. Hoo-rags are perfect protection for cyclists!
Totally Tandem is also using their mission to help others. Their ride is raising funds to donate to World Bicycle Relief to provide specially designed, locally assembled bicycles to students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in rural Africa, connecting them with education, healthcare and economic opportunities.
Follow Bremma’s journey on their blog Totally Tandem.

Pedaling for Pups 2014

Here at Hoo Headquarters, we have a special spot in our hearts for our four legged friends! Our resident office dog – Ms. Lulu, can usually be found taking a nap under one of our desks or begging the delivery man for a treat! And when our employees bring their pups in for the day, sometimes the office becomes a total bark fest!
But we know not all dogs are as lucky (or spoiled!) so we are proud to be a sponsor of the 3rd Annual Pedaling for Pups. P4P is a recreational bike ride to benefit homeless dogs at PC Pound Puppies in New Harmony, Indiana. All proceeds benefit the non-profit, no kill organization that helps to improve the lives of stray and homeless dogs in the area. Some of the services provided include spay/neutering, vaccinating, micro-chipping and more! The event is expecting over 200 riders on Saturday, September 20 in conjunction with the German festival, Kunstfest.

Hoo-rag Teams Up to Beat Cancer

Approximately every four minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer. Blood cancer is the most common type of cancer in children and young adults under the age of 20.
September is blood cancer awareness month and The Hoo team has partnered up with the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society (LLS) to sponsor the Pineapple Classic 5k. The LLS exists to find cures for blood cancer and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Hawaiian themed run includes obstacles, costumes and a beer garden so participants have fun, get dirty and help in the fight to beat cancer. Sounds like our kind of party!
